A NIPPO/USA Championship will be awarded to the following winners:
Saikosho: The highest breed award given. A 15-point NIPPO/USA Championship is awarded to the Best of Breed in each Breed at this event provided that, in the opinion of the judge, there has been quality competition of 5 or more dogs in that breed, unless the judge determines that the Breed winner is outstanding. Dogs awarded Nippo/USA championship at any Classic may not compete at subsequent events, but they may be entered for Exhibition.Note: The judge may award Saikosho, but not award a Nippo/USA Championship. In that case the Saikosho may compete in subsequent Classics until awarded a Nippo/USA Championship..

It is given to the Best of Opposite Sex in each Breed, which may also receive a 15-point NIPPO/USA Championship provided that, in the opinion of the judge, there has been quality competition of 5 or more dogs in that breed, unless the judge determines that the Best of Opposite Sex winner is outstanding. Dogs awarded Jun Saikosho at any Classic may compete at subsequent Classics until awarded a Nippo/USA Championship.
Points for placements:
Each class winner will be awarded points as follows: 1st place: 5 pts ~ 2nd place: 4 pts ~ 3rd place: 3 pts ~ 4th place: 2 pts. The points will be cumulative for following years. Upon the accumulation of 15 points, the dog will be titled NIPPO/USA Champion, “Meiyosho” (Honorable). Each dog will receive a certificate of title or points, signed by the NIPPO judge for that particular year. Certificates may take up to 12 months to arrive. Once a dog has been titled Meiyosho, it may only enter the Classic for exhibition.
Prizes: The Supreme Award and Reserve Supreme Award winners (when awarded), Saikosho, Jun Saikosho, and 1st through 4th class placements in all breeds will receive a rosette. Winners of upper level awards and class placements which have been sponsored may receive a souvenir trophy as detailed in the premium for that Classic.
Effective 2018
Nippo will accept Grand National entries from dogs participating in the Classic and at other shows organized by overseas associated groups with the following conditions;
- Eligibility - Dogs with Excellent (Yuryo), evaluation by Nippo judges, at Nippo's acknowledged shows, organized by the associated groups. Note: this generally is the 1st through 4th place winners in regular Classic classes. It is our understanding that there is no time limit on the eligibility, so that a winner does not have to exercise eligibility in the year in which the dog was awarded Yuryo)
- The associated groups must issue the certificate of the eligibility and submit along with GN application. (Note: Classic certificates will be provided upon request to those who intend to enter the GN)
- The copies of pedigrees, issued by the Nippo acknowledged kennel clubs, are required to submit as well.
- For US, dogs must have JKC pedigrees. (Note: This will mean owners of dogs born in the US, will have extra layer of paperwork)
- Owners must be Nippo members
- The other rules and regulations follow with the domestic rules for GN entry
Nippo will provide Certificates of Award to the entry judged as Saikosho (BOB) and Jun Saikosho (BOS) at the Classic and other shows acknowledged by Nippo and organized by the associated overseas group. (Note: There is no requirement that the dog be Nippo registered or that the owner be a Nippo member.)
Shiba Inu Special Prizes & Awards
Colonial Shiba Club offers an engraved frame to the Shiba Inu awarded BOB and BOS.
Colonial Shiba Club special 'SHIBAS ONLY ' award. The Nippo/USA Heritage Award will be given to the one Shiba Inu judged to be the best American Bred entry from Nippo registered parents and which is itself individually Nippo registered. This is not a separate class and all first placements will be eligible, unless an American Bred-Nippo registered exhibit is awarded Saikosho. If Saikosho is American Bred-Nippo registered, that entry receives the Heritage Award. If Saikosho is not eligible, but Jun Saikosho is eligible, Jun Saikosho competes against the 1st place winners of the opposite sex for the Heritage Award. The winner will receive a commemorative rosette. No additional points are awarded.
