About NIPPO/USA
The NIPPO/USA awards and point system was developed through coordination between Nippo and the Colonial Shiba Club. This system and awards are unique to the Colonial Shiba Club Nippo Classic events. NIPPO/USA points and awards do not carry over to NIPPO, or to AKC or UKC.
A NIPPO/USA championship is awarded by a Nihon Ken Hozonkai certified judge, but it is NOT a NIPPO championship.
PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY
NIPPO registration is encouraged, but not required for participation. The NIPPO Classic uses AKC, Nippo, JKC, UKC or other breed-specific registration numbers to track entries. Young dogs which may not as yet have registration numbers, may be entered in the Classic with a Colonial Shiba Club temporary tracking number issued for the event. Colonial Shiba Club numbers are not registration numbers. They have no applicability in AKC (or any other) registration process and are good only for the Nippo/USA tracking at the Classic. A Colonial Shiba Club Nippo/USA tracking number does not constitute registration of the dog in Nippo, JKC, AKC or any other registry.
NIPPO/USA POINT SYSTEM and AWARDS
Class placements in each class will be awarded points as follows: 1st place: 5 pts ~ 2nd place: 4 pts ~ 3rd place: 3 pts ~ 4th place: 2 pts.
Points awarded are cumulative. Upon the accumulation of 15 points, over any number of years, the dog will be titled NIPPO/USA Champion, “Meiyosho” (Honorable).
Saikosho (BOB): The highest breed award given. A 15-point NIPPO/USA Championship is awarded to the Best of Breed in each Breed at this event provided that there has been quality competition of 5 or more dogs in that breed, unless the judge determines that the Breed winner is outstanding.
Jun Saikosho (BOS): The second highest breed award. It is given to the Best of Opposite Sex in each Breed, which also receives a 15-point NIPPO/USA Championship provided that there has been quality competition of 5 or more dogs in that breed, unless the judge determines that the Best of Opposite Sex winner is outstanding.
Supreme Award: The highest award given at a Nippo Classic in which multiple of the Native Japanese breeds are in competition. The winners of each Breed Competition will compete for the Supreme Award, but only one dog will be awarded this distinction.
Reserve Supreme Award: The second highest award given at this event. The winners of each Breed Competition will compete for the Reserve Supreme Award.
Each dog will receive a certificate of title or points, signed by the NIPPO judge for that particular year. Certificates may take up to 12 months to arrive.
