Colonial Shiba Club encourages those who support the mission of the Colonial Club to become members of Nippo.
Nippo membership is NOT a membership in Colonial Shiba Club. Colonial Shiba Club is the single US organization permitted by Nippo to hold Nippo-style events as Nippo/USA. Nippo/USA is not a membership organization.
Why join Nippo
By special arrangement with Nippo, RESIDENTS OF THE U.S ONLY may complete their Nippo application and pay for initiation and membership fees in USD by PayPal through Colonial Shiba Club. U.S. RESIDENTS ONLY MAY also register a Nippo Kennel Name (separate online form) at the same time. NOTES: USD amounts will be reviewed quarterly, and may change to reflect current exchange rates.
DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF OVERSEAS FUNDS TRANSFER, WE PROCESS NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS AND OTHER KENNEL REGISTRATIONS TWICE YEARLY. (AT THE END OF MARCH, WITH RENEWALS AND IN MID-AUGUST OF EACH YEAR. MEMBERSHIP AND/OR KENNEL REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER MARCH 20 YEARLY WILL BE PROCESSED ON/ABOUT AUGUST 15 OF EACH YEAR. THOSE RECEIVED AFTER MID-AUGUST WILL BE HELD UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR RENEWAL.

General
(OBJECTIVE) This organization researches a variety of topics about Japanese breed dogs that are designated as National Monuments of Japan, maintains individual dog pedigrees, protects breed standards, and attempts improving/developing dogs’ body structures and functions. In addition, the organization tries to increase opportunities of utilizing the functions that these dogs are bred with, by connecting with other agencies and organizations. Nippo’s objective is to contribute to Japanese culture with the Japanese dogs as National Monuments.
(ACTIVITIES) The organization performs the following tasks & activities in both Japan and overseas, in order to achieve the objective, stated in above.
(MEMBER CATEGORIES) The members of the organization are comprised of individuals and groups. A group is equivalent to one individual.
There are 3 categories of memberships;
(LOST MEMBERSHIP) Members lose their membership for the reasons below;
(WITHDRAWAL) If a member wants to withdraw from the organization, he/she must notify to the organization.
(PENALTIES) With 3/4 of board member’s agreement, the president can impose a penalty against a member if one of the following activities is observed;

- With your Nippo membership, you will receive the periodic Nippo magazine. It contains informative articles on breeding, Nippo events, and other topics of interest. Also nice photos of dogs in exhibition in Japan and at exhibitions outside Japan. Translations of selected articles will be put on this website.
- You must be a Nippo member to register your kennel name, register litters and individual dogs.
- Individuals who join Nippo through Colonial Shiba Club will be able to renew annually through Colonial.

- Office: The headquarter is located at Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo
- Local offices, Regional Groups: The organization places local offices as necessary based on board members’ decision and creates regional groups based on separate regulations.

- Determine Japanese breed standards
- Educate how to breed, manage, maintain Japanese breeds
- Maintain and issue pedigrees of Japanese breeds
- Research and report a variety of Japanese breed related topics
- Conduct dog shows, field test/trails, and seminars about Japanese breeds, and support events by other related groups and organizations
- Appoint judges for Japanese breed dog shows
- Introduce and promote Japanese breeds overseas
- Increase awareness of Japanese dog as companions and service dogs i.e. protection dogs, hunting, pets, and other appropriate opportunities
- Issue magazines and other publications
- Conduct other activities in order to achieve the objective
(MEMBER CATEGORIES) The members of the organization are comprised of individuals and groups. A group is equivalent to one individual.
There are 3 categories of memberships;
- Members – Regardless owning Japanese dogs, members agree with the objective of the organization, and enroll with Nippo specified procedures.
- Patronage Members – For those of Individuals who support organization’s activities, this member is selected and voted by the board, then, recommended by the president.
- Honored Members – For those of individuals who made a special contribution to the organization, this member is selected & voted by the board, then recommended by the president.
- An individual who applies to a membership must submit the specified form by the organization with initiation and membership fees. The president must approve the application.
- An individual who is recommended to be an honored or patronage member does not have to go through the enrollment process, and becomes the member with his/her agreement.
- Initiation Fee – 3000 JP Yen
- Annual Membership Fee – 5000 JP Yen .
(LOST MEMBERSHIP) Members lose their membership for the reasons below;
- Withdrawal
- Death, or declared as missing person. Or a group lost their identity (closed or dissolved).
- Dismissal
- No annual membership fee is paid during the specified period for renewal
(WITHDRAWAL) If a member wants to withdraw from the organization, he/she must notify to the organization.
(PENALTIES) With 3/4 of board member’s agreement, the president can impose a penalty against a member if one of the following activities is observed;
- The member damages the image of the organization, disturbs the harmony of the organization, or acts against the objective of the organization.
- The member violates the duty as member of the organization. “Duty” as defined for certain cases, or the board also defines.
- The member disturbs the manner of the organization.
- Warning
- Suspension of participating dog shows
- Termination (excluding delegate members)
